Some of the images were taken from the confines of the house and garden so there is little doubt as to where my interest in railways came from. These images are from scanned photographs, the negatives long lost in subsequent house moves. If anybody objects to any of these pictures appearing here please contact me and I will remove them. The one shot from outside Selby and Barlby is at Riccall gates taken on a bike trip to York shed while we were waiting for the gates to open to allow us on our way. It is included in this gallery mainly because Riccall kids went to the same school as me! Oh to be able to identify the Black Five which York shed had borrowed to work the pick up goods, all I can remember is it was from Saltley. Could have been 45040 D1500 hurries through the station on the down through road with an express D1517 on the Millerhill - King's Cross express goods makes its way south as a down goods is placed in the loop to be overtaken. D1521 passes through Selby station with an up express D179 with the Sunday morning Doncaster - Newcastle Not what it seems, it was a shunt move, D2158 on the sidings which were at one time the mainline of the Hull & Selby Railway. D251 approaches the Selby station stop with th York - Lowestoft/Yarmouth D285 hurries through the station with an up express D3320 on the York up line during relaying of the up Hull on a Sunday morning D3320 on the York up line during relaying of the up Hull on a Sunday morning D350 heads south off the York line, that lilac tree should really have been chopped down! The Cliffe - Uddingston cement train that brought SR diesels as far north as York comes off the swing bridge The empties from Uddingston returning with D6581 D6968 on a returning seaside special on a Sunday evening. D8067 and sister return to their train 1F75 which was a returning seaside special to the Sheffield area after depositing the front coach in the goods yard after it had run hot. It appears that this was on Saturday 22nd August 1964 when D8058+D8067 worked an Elsecar-Scarborough relief. Gone are the gas lamps and the big gates that seperated the platform from Station Road. E51223 a Met-Cam DMU waits for the right away on a Leeds - Hull service Unidentified Darnall B1 heading for the seaside with a Saturday excursion. Correction to this as it would seem that it was 61094 of New England on Saturday 22nd August 1964. When the loco was ready to work the return leg from Scarborough the crew refused to take it as they had not brought their overalls, thinking they were to get a diesel. There was nobody rostered to attend to the engine on Scarborough shed so it was used for the station pilot in place of the York 204hp shunter. I wonder what the station pilot crew thought of their workmates? 55008 on the Flying Scotsman passing the BOCM complex in Barlby 60039 rolls off the swing bridge with an up goods
